Lasius emarginatus

Lasius emarginatus (im deutschen Rotrückige Hausameise) gehört zur Unterfamilie Formicinae. Die Arbeiterinnen dieser Art besitzen einen rotgelb bis rotbraunen Thorax, welcher sich gut vom dunkleren Kopf und Abdomen abhebt. Die Arbeiterinnen sind ca. 2,5 - 4,5 mm groß, die Königinnen 7 - 9 und die Männchen 3,5 - 4,5 mm. L. emarginatus bevorzugt Wärme und Trockenheit, das Nest wird meist in altem Holz angelegt. Diese Art kann aber auch in Felsbiotopen (v.a. in Felsritzen und Hohlräumen) leben. Aufgrund ihres Vorkommens in Mauerspalten an Hauswänden und im Gebälk einiger Häuser wird L. emarginatus (teilweise) als Schädling angesehen. Die Arbeiterinnen nutzen Insekten, Honigtau sowie Elaiosomen als Nahrung. Die monogynen Kolonien schwärmen zwischen Juni und August und halten von Oktober bis März Winterruhe.
