Die Gattung Daceton bestand für 205 Jahre aus einer einzigen Art, Daceton armigerum (LATREILLE). Nun wurde eine zweite Art entdeckt und als Daceton boltoni beschrieben:

Die Arbeit enthält viele eindrucksvolle Bilder sowie Angaben über Verbreitung und Lebensweise.
Abstract
A remarkable new species in the ant genus Daceton, which has remained monotypic for 205 years, is described from Brazil and Peru. The new species, Daceton boltoni sp. nov., is similar to its sister species, D. armigerum, but differs from it mainly in the form of the pronotal lateral spines and in the pilosity of the first gastral segment. The taxonomic history and biology of the genus is reviewed.

Beide Arten sind arboricol, von D. boltoni sind bisher nur Arbeiterinnen beschrieben.
Auch von D. armigerum sind Männchen und Gyne offenbar sehr selten in Sammlungen zu finden. In der folgenden Arbeit wurden sie jedoch bereits beschrieben:
